Gladys Omukongolo, the Member for county Assembly for Idakho North, has urged the leadership of Kakamega County to remove a contractor working on a road project from Jamindas to Kata. Omukongolo made the call during the funeral of Dr. George Mbakaya,  who was a director of Agriculture in the county government of Kakamega, at his home in Shimanyiro.

Omukongolo expressed concern over the poor state of the road, which she said was affecting the movement of students from Bukura Agricultural College. She argued that the contractor’s work had been slow and substandard, leading to frequent breakdowns and accidents on the road.

The MCA also called for an accelerated completion of the water supply project in Shimanyiro Catholic Church. She praised Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa and Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali for their efforts in promoting development and expansion of the Idakho Market.

Omukongolo emphasized that the slow pace of the water supply project was causing inconvenience to residents, who were struggling to access clean water. She appealed to the contractor to expedite the project to ensure that the community has access to clean water.

The MCA further accused the contractor of not following proper procedures, which had led to delays and cost overruns. She demanded that the contractor be held accountable for their poor performance.

Omukongolo’s appeal comes as concerns over corruption and poor governance continue to plague Kakamega County. The move is seen as a step towards addressing these issues and ensuring that development projects are completed on time and within budget.

In her address, Omukongolo praised Dr. Mbakaya for his dedication to development in Kakamega County, describing him as a champion of progress and change. The late was known for his commitment to promoting education and economic empowerment in the region.
