After staying at home for one week, the over 2,400 students of Maranda High School which was indefinitely closed after a dormitory fire last week have been recalled.

The students will start reporting back to school in shifts from Monday next week with each student required to pay Ksh.2,500 for damages.

In a message to parents and guardians, the school Principal Edwin Namachanja indicated that Form Ones will be required to report on Monday, November 22, followed by Form Fours on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.

Mr. Namachanja added that Form Two students will report on Wednesday, November 24, while Form Threes on Thursday, November 25, 2021.

The principal, who is also the Secretary of the school’s Board of Management, indicated that the board met on November 11 and agreed on the reporting dates, stating that each student must be accompanied by their parents and they will be required to clear full fees for second term of the 2021 academic calendar.

He indicated that the payment which sums up to over Ksh.6 million for the entire student population cumulatively shall be used for reconstruction of the burnt dormitory. The Principal added that part of that money will help in provision of mattresses, two blankets, two bed sheets and one bed cover to each of the 178 students whose items were burnt in the fire.
