The Kakamega County International Investment Conference is set to be hosted by the Kakamega County Government, welcoming over 2000 local and international guests, including investors. Elizabeth Asichi, the Chief Executive Officer of Kakamega County Investment and Development Agency (KCIDA), has confirmed the capacity to accommodate over 4000 visitors in the event of surpassing the anticipated numbers.

Scheduled to take place from the 19th to the 22nd of next week at Masinde Muliro University, the conference bears the theme ‘Opening up Counties as the New Frontiers for Investment and Development.’ The official opening of the conference on the 20th of next week will be graced by President William Ruto, with the presence of distinguished guests such as the Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Wamkele Mene, and the US Ambassador to Kenya, Margaret Whitman.

The event will see the participation of various stakeholders, including government representatives, foreign mission delegates, development partners, and CEOs of local and international companies. Additionally, bilateral and multilateral institutions, as well as local Micro Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) of Kakamega, are expected to be in attendance.

During the conference, the county government aims to attract investors to support transformative development initiatives. Key areas of focus include the completion, equipping, and operationalization of the 750-bed capacity Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital and exploring potential investments in the Kakamega Forest, known for its unique ecosystem.

Acknowledgment was extended to the National government for its support in completing Bukhungu Stadium, which is anticipated to create new investment opportunities in the hospitality industry and generate employment for local residents. In addition, residents are encouraged to seize the conference as an opportunity to engage in learning, idea exchange, networking, and showcasing their products to international guests. The conference will also feature discussions and interactions facilitated by the Kenya Diaspora Alliance.
