The national government has been praised for exempting some goods from taxes, while Kakamega County Government has been called upon to prioritize paying its employees’ salaries without delay.

Speaking to Lubao FM, Bernard Munase, a local politician and businessman in Isukha North, Kakamega County, expressed gratitude to the Kenyan government for increasing the budget for 2024/2025 and proposing a hike in taxes on bread, cooking oil, and other essential commodities.

Munase also called on the national government to implement taxation policies that benefit the people, rather than the wealthy. He noted that when projects are undertaken, ordinary citizens are motivated to pay taxes.

Additionally, he requested lawmakers in Kakamega County to pass a law allocating specific funds for public transportation.

On the other hand, Kakamega County Government under Governor Fernandez Baraza has been urged to address the issue of delayed payments to its employees. Munase called on the county government to ensure that workers receive their salaries on time so they can cater to their families’ needs.

It is hoped that the county government will heed this call and prioritize the welfare of its employees, who are vital to the development of the county.
