Renowned Kakamega business tycoon, Cleophas Shimanyula, also known as Toto, has called on residents of Kakamega to be vigilant and watchful over the leaders they elect, particularly those who will take over after the current crop of leaders, many of whom have been in office for over 70 years.
Speaking during the burial ceremony of late CDF Simon Onami Omenya Lusieba in Navakholo Constituency, Toto urged residents to be aware of the politicians who claim to represent them, but may not have their interests at heart. He further asked the youth to register to vote in large numbers and exercise their democratic right to choose leaders who will truly serve them.
Toto, a prominent figure in Kakamega politics, is a key leader of the Tawe Movement, which is pushing for change in leadership in the region. He was joined by other prominent leaders, including Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe, who had completed his three terms and will not be seeking re-election.
Wangwe expressed gratitude to the people of Navakholo for giving him the opportunity to serve them for three terms and urged them to elect a worthy successor. He also appealed to the youth to register to vote and participate in the electoral process.
Other leaders present at the burial ceremony included Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa and MPs from various constituencies. The funeral procession was attended by hundreds of mourners from across the region.
Toto’s message was echoed by Absolom Lumbasi, Ingotse Matiha MCA, who emphasized the need for unity among leaders and residents to push for development in Kakamega County. Moses Musundi, Sheywe Ward MCA, urged the people to work together towards a common goal and support their elected leaders.
The late CDF Simon Onami Omenya Lusieba was remembered for his dedication to serving his community and his contributions to the development of Navakholo Constituency.
