Expectant mothers and new born babies in Kakamega North have every reason to live for after Jacaranda Health in conjuction with other partners designed a mode that will see specialed care accorded to them in a more efficient, timely, advanced and dignified manner. According to a study carried out by the specialists dubbed Tutunze Kakamega only 37% of births in the county occur in a properly equipped facility that is capable of handling maternal emergencies and yet more that 99%  live closer to either a level 4 or a level 5 facility.

While commissioning a new Maternity wing at Malava Level 4 County Hospital,H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa, the Governor Kakamega County accompanied by his deputy H.E Ayub Savula, revealed that 205 facilities across Kakamega County have been earmarked for upgrade through the SDR strategy, which will be implemented in three phases constructed and equipped through a partnership between the County Government of Kakamega and Jacaranda Health.

According to Jacaranda County Director Ms Cynthia Kahumbura, the project will increase the demand for high quality care where by more than 70.000 mothers will be tabulated and monitored to SMS prompts thus strengthening the community linkages through the aid of Community Health Volunteers.

Through partners in the Tutunze Kakamega program Thinkwell, Thinkplace, Rescue.com, Harvard University and Buildx Studio, Jacaranda Health intends to ensure that mothers high quality care, are attended to in hugh quality facilities, the deliveries are uninterrupted in terms of supplies and all the levels of government provide an improved health financing arrangement  that enables mothers, babies and facilities are able to spend their own revenue on priority areas.

In Kakamega County, Jaracanda Health intends to reduce the rate of maternal and neonatal care and in the long run contributing to the country’s SDGs for the next five years.
