Schools in Malava Sub County have received a much-awaited bursary of Ksh. 45 million from the constituency development fund (NG-CDF). The funds were officially released during a ceremony at the CDF offices, with Malava MP Malulu Injendi commending school principals for their dedication to ensuring learning continued despite delays in fund disbursement.

The MP mentioned that the initial funds received in January were insufficient, and they decided to wait for the remaining amount before distributing it. The MP emphasized the need for schools to allow parents ample time to arrange for school fees, especially with many schools closing soon.

He highlighted that the bursary allocation was based on helping as many applicants as possible, ranging from Ksh. 2,000 to 5,000 per student. The MP encouraged schools to promote bursary applications among parents. He expressed concern about political interference affecting the bursary application process and urged schools to focus on enhancing education standards.

The MP also addressed issues of public criticism towards teachers and school managers, emphasizing the importance of supporting the education system positively. Additionally, he praised the principals of Malava Boys and Malava Girls schools for their dedication to academic excellence.

The chairperson of the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) Kakamega North subcounty, Rose Abuko, praised the support from the CDF office and urged continued cooperation for the benefit of students. The principal of Shamberere National Polytechnic, Elisha Nyamu, assured parents and principals of the institution’s status as a national polytechnic.

The fund manager, Collins Obuya, confirmed that 11,000 applicants benefited from the bursary, with schools and colleges in the sub-county receiving a substantial amount of the total allocation. Parents were advised to deposit the bursary cheques and provide receipts for transparency, with the list of beneficiaries to be displayed on school notice boards.
