The Ministry of Education is facing a challenge in addressing the demands of teachers seeking salary harmonization with their colleagues. The Tanzania Civil Service (TSC) has been accused of neglecting the plight of senior teachers who feel underpaid compared to their junior counterparts. Speaking at a ceremony held at Ekambuli Primary School, the school’s headmaster, Oyando Isaac, lamented that the school has not received salary harmonization for its teachers due to the bureaucratic nature of the process.

According to Oyando, the school has been facing difficulties in attracting and retaining qualified teachers due to the salary disparity. He emphasized that the school is committed to providing quality education to its students, but this is hindered by the lack of adequate resources, including qualified teachers.

Oyando also highlighted the importance of extracurricular activities in promoting talent development among students. He mentioned that the school has invested in music and sports programs, which have helped to identify and nurture talented students.

Despite the challenges, Oyando expressed optimism that the school will continue to improve its performance and reputation. He attributed this to the hard work and dedication of its staff, as well as the support from parents and the community.

The teacher’s union has been pushing for salary harmonization, citing the need to recognize the expertise and experience of senior teachers. The union argues that senior teachers should be paid more than their junior colleagues to reflect their level of responsibility and contribution to the education sector.

The Ministry of Education has acknowledged the concerns raised by teachers and has promised to address them. However, Oyando expressed frustration with the slow pace of implementation, which he believes is hindering efforts to improve teacher morale and motivation.
