In a bold move to promote girls’ education and empowerment, the Trans Nzoia County authorities organized a one-day event at the Showground School, bringing together hundreds of girls from primary and junior secondary schools in the region.
The event was officially launched by Hon. Lilian Siyo, the area’s county mother, who emphasized the importance of education in empowering girls. “Education is key to unlocking the potential of our girls and women,” she said. “It’s our responsibility as a community to provide them with the necessary support and resources to excel in their academic and personal endeavors.”
County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi also spoke at the event, highlighting the need for continued investment in education. “We recognize the critical role that girls play in our society, and we are committed to providing them with equal opportunities to succeed,” he said. “This event is just one step towards achieving that goal.”
The event featured interactive workshops on self-esteem, confidence building, and goal setting, which were led by experts in the field. The girls participated in team-building exercises, which fostered camaraderie and encouraged teamwork among participants.
One of the keynote speakers, Dr. Jane Mwangi, a renowned education expert, emphasized the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty. “Education is not only a human right, but also a powerful tool for economic empowerment,” she said. “When we educate girls, we empower them to make informed decisions about their own lives and to break free from cycles of poverty.”
