Agricultural experts have been advised to explore various markets and techniques to increase maize production in the region. This was highlighted during a farming exhibition held at Kibuku Farm in Elgon, where Peter Matundura, a local agricultural officer, emphasized the need for farmers to adopt new methods to achieve sustainable food security.

Matundura urged farmers to diversify their crops and explore new markets to increase their yields and ensure food security. He noted that by adopting new techniques, farmers can improve their productivity and profitability.

Susan Ng’eno, an agricultural officer from Bungoma County, also emphasized the importance of marketing and branding in the agricultural sector. She encouraged farmers to develop a single brand identity for their produce to improve their marketability.

The county government has assured farmers of its commitment to supporting them in their endeavors. The government has provided various incentives to farmers, including training and capacity building programs, to enhance their skills and knowledge.

The call comes at a time when maize production has been affected by various factors such as climate change, pests, and diseases. Farmers are therefore being urged to adopt new techniques and technologies to mitigate these challenges and improve their yields.
