The Ministry of Health has reiterated the importance of malaria prevention and management in the country. Speaking in Kakamega, the Principal Secretary for Health, Mary Muthoni, emphasized that the measures taken by the ministry are aimed at improving healthcare services to the community.

According to Muthoni, the measures include training healthcare workers on the diagnosis and treatment of malaria, HIV/AIDS, and other diseases. She stressed that it is essential for healthcare workers to provide accurate information to patients and adhere to standardized treatment protocols.

The minister also highlighted the importance of community-based healthcare insurance (SHIF) which aims to provide affordable healthcare services to citizens. Under this program, every citizen will be insured for a premium of KES 300 per year.

Additionally, Muthoni underscored the government’s efforts to combat malaria by distributing insecticide-treated nets to citizens. She emphasized that the distribution of these nets is crucial in preventing mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria.

Malaria remains a significant public health concern in Kenya, with thousands of cases reported annually. The disease can be prevented by using insecticide-treated nets, spraying indoor spaces with insecticides, and applying mosquito repellents. Early detection and treatment are also critical in reducing the risk of severe malaria complications.

The Ministry of Health is working tirelessly to improve healthcare services across the country, and initiatives such as SHIF and mosquito net distribution are aimed at making quality healthcare more accessible and affordable for all Kenyans.

The Principal Secretary for Health has further emphasized on the importance of community-based healthcare insurance and mosquito net distribution in preventing and managing malaria. The government is committed to providing quality healthcare services to its citizens, and it is essential for individuals to take preventive measures against mosquito-borne diseases.
