Preparations for the swearing-in of Anne Kananu Mwenda as Nairobi governor is in high gear after the Court of Appeal threw out an appeal filed by former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko.

Sonko had moved to the Supreme Court on 25th October seeking to stop the swearing in of Kananu after the court of appeal struck out his case. The 5 judge bench however ruled that it has no jurisdiction to hear the application.

The Court ruled that the application was premature saying in the absence of the judgment by the Court of Appeal the application did not meet the threshold in accordance to the constitution.

The main appeal filed before the Court of Appeal by Sonko is yet to be heard and determined with directions on the hearing of the appeal set for November 15. In October the appellate court dismissed Sonko’s appeal of the High Court decision to remove him from office forcing him to move to the Supreme Court.

The date has not yet been set for the swearing in ceremony.
