Media Council of Kenya (MCK) CEO David Omwonyo has been handed a 5-year term extension to serve in office until July 2027.

Mr. Omwonyo’s second and last term has been extended following a performance appraisal by the MCK board, in which he received high marks. He has a stellar track record in the institution, where he has significantly enhanced its efficiency.

Mr. Omwonyo’s term was scheduled to end in June 2022.

Mr. Omwonyo has been praised for the excellent turnaround of operations under his leadership, including the opening of four regional offices and strengthening the council’s financial status.

He was the Managing Director of Waumini Communications and the Communications Director for the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops for 6 years before joining the MCK, where he built an enviable countrywide media network.

He also worked in academia as the Egerton University Fundraising and Donor Relations Manager, where he was responsible for institutional advancement and donor relations.

He has over 15 years’ experience in journalism, media training and management, spanning the public, private, religious and non-governmental sectors.
