Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) aims at enhancing its learning mechanisms through infrastructural development. According to the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Solomon Shibairo, the University plans to spend Sh850 million to build an engineering Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institution for engineering studies.

He said the Labour and Leadership Center will also be built for the School of Business at a cost of Sh1.2 billion. Addressing 4,662 first year students joining the university, Prof Shibairo said that the university is student-centered and is committed to provide quality-learning services.

He said his administration has allocated Sh90 million solely to improve the internet and that all buildings were being wired for students to access high quality internet. Prof Shibairo added that the University has begun constructing an Olympic size swimming pool for the students.

This will enable students to spend their free time doing swimming as it is important for body fitness and reduces stress. The university has also bought sporting uniforms for those talented in sports such as soccer and rugby.

The VC urged students to take care of their personal security following an incident this week where a fourth-year student was reportedly killed in unclear circumstances while taking a nature walk in Kakamega forest. The County Government of Kakamega has donated three high mast flood lights that will aid so much in security.

He asked the community to tolerate the students and live-in harmony with them.
