Mumias Sugar Company leaseholder Sarrai Group is ramping up the turnaround of the ailing miller amidst a cloud of legal suits against the process.

The Ugandan based firm says it has so far finished ploughing over 400 hectares of the nucleus estate in preparation for the planting season.

the Group has further asked former staff to submit their resumes for review and subsequent rehiring.

The lessee expects to resume operations at the State-owned miller within the next six to eight months.

Sarrai says its activities so far are not in contempt of any court orders even as the company awaits directions o a petition by Tumaz and Tumaz Enterprise- a joint bidder for the assets of Mumias.

The petitioner has challenged Sarrai’s Group asset takeover on December 23 citing an opaque bidding and award process in which it had submitted the highest bid for the miller’s assets.

Sarrai Group alongside Mumias- KCB appointed administrator Ponangipalli Rao have been listed as respondents.

Previously, Sarrai has faced four other petitions challenging its win to lease the assets of Mumias.
