The vulnerable in Vihiga County are beaming after the County Government commissioned foodstuff to sub counties to cushion them from the effects Covid-19 pandemic has posed.

Speaking at the County headquarters in Mbale, Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo reminded residents that Covid-19 pandemic is still here with us and people should adhere to the guidelines set by the government. The Governor however thanked Vihiga County residents for sticking to the guidelines adding that so far it is only one Covid-19 case that has been reported from Vihiga County.

Distribution will see 10,784 vulnerable families benefit. The foodstuffs distributed include; 1000 bags of 50kgs of beans, 224 bags of 90kg maize and 2litres of cooking oil per family.

Vihiga County Commissioner Ochillo Oyugi has said the distribution of the foodstuffs will be overseen by Food Security Sub County Committees and it will take strictly two days to ensure every beneficiary is covered. He however cautioned those flouting Covid-19 guidelines that they will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He added that shopping vouchers have been given to beneficiaries, Oyugi has said plans are underway for Kazi Mtaani program to be rolled out next week to empower youths during this tough Covid-19 period.
