Deputy President William Ruto has articulated his condolences following the passing on of the African Church of the Holy Spirit, High Priest Shem Shamalla yesterday.

DP Ruto in a statement on Thursday lauded the Christian leader for his unwavering faith and remarkable character. The DP went further to condole with the family and friends for their loss.

The High Priest of the African Church of the Holy Spirit in Kakamega, died on Wednesday, October 27th morning at his Malava home in Kakamega County after a short illness. He was 84.

The deceased’s name came into the limelight on September 18, 2021, when the DP while touring the region during one of his political rallies gifted him with a new car, Suzuki Escudo. DP Ruto was at the time hosted by the church located in Tumbeni village.

Before the said event, church members had pleaded with Ruto saying the Priest was a constant boda boda rider, a move that triggered the DP to gift Shamalla with the car. Ruto stated that the act of charity would go a long way in easing ‘the missionary war’.

During the event, Shamalla called upon the President and Ruto to come together in a bid to ensure a peaceful 2022 election. The late will be remembered as the fifth High Priest of the church which started in 1927 and has a majority of its following in Kakamega.
