The Lugari National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has awarded scholarships to 450 financially disadvantaged but academically talented students in the constituency. These students will have their secondary school fees fully covered for the entire four-year duration.
MP Nabii Nabwera, speaking at Lumakanda Grounds, reminded the students of the importance of achieving high grades and encouraged them to make the most of this opportunity. Non-scholarship students will have the chance to apply for bursaries.
The total investment in scholarships and bursaries is Sh50 million, with the NG-CDF contributing Sh44 million and the Kenya Commercial Bank-Webuye branch providing Sh6 million. The MP acknowledged that although Lugari is relatively new to utilizing the Constituency Development Fund, they are making progress and the initiative will have a positive impact on education standards in the area.
Local leaders and education officials praised the MP’s efforts and urged all stakeholders to collaborate in providing an optimal learning environment for the students. The Sub County Director of Education highlighted the scholarships’ alignment with the Ministry of Education’s policy of access, retention, and transition. She urged parents to support the students’ education and commended the MP for transforming the education sector in the constituency.
The Chairman of the Secondary Schools Headteachers Association and the Primary Schools Headteachers Association also commended the MP’s scholarship program and emphasized the transformative power of education.
Parents and guardians expressed their gratitude for the scholarships, stating that their children can now attend school without any financial obstacles for four years.
