With memories of the 2007 post-election violence still vivid, residents of Mt. Elgon Constituency have been urged to safeguard peace and unity as Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election.
During a peace sensitisation meeting held in Kapkateny Ward, AFRINOV officer Trinity Amina emphasized the importance of rejecting violence and embracing peaceful coexistence regardless of political differences. Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Ms. Amina cautioned politicians against making inflammatory remarks that could trigger tensions, urging leaders and stakeholders to work together in promoting peace before, during, and after the polls.

Community leaders echoed the call for unity. The area Chief encouraged young people to shun drug abuse and instead take an active role in maintaining peace within the community. Residents commended AFRINOV for its consistent efforts in peacebuilding, expressing hope that the violence witnessed after the 2007 General Election would never be repeated.
Church leaders and persons with disabilities also joined the appeal, urging residents to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and unity as the country approaches the 2027 elections. They stressed that peace is a shared responsibility that requires collective effort from all citizens.

The sensitisation meeting highlighted the need for vigilance against divisive rhetoric and underscored the role of grassroots communities in ensuring that Mt. Elgon remains a beacon of peace during the electoral season.
