A leadership,governance and group dynamics training organised by the Cereal Growers Association (CGA) through the Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA) programme,concluded in Kakamega County after bringing together leaders of Farmer Service Centres (FSCs) from the Mumias East and Likuyani Hubs
The training focus:-
strengthening leadership and governance capacities by promoting teamwork,
accountability, effective communication and collaborative decision-making.
the importance of strong leadership in improving coordination among farmers and enhancing access to agricultural inputs, markets and other essential services
Speaking during the closing session, the Agribusiness Coordinator for the Cereal Growers Association in Kakamega County, Ms.Lilian Olando, said the association has made significant progress in strengthening leadership structures and ensuring the effective implementation of its programmes
She urged participants to put the knowledge gained into practice within their respective Farmer Service Center
Mr.Ronald Orwa,a an Agribusiness Coordinator with the Cereal Growers Association, said the Farmer Service Centres were established to improve the coordination of farmers’ activities, strengthen collaboration among farming groups and enhance access to agricultural services
From Participants, the Chairperson of the Mumias East Farmer Service Centre, Mr.Humphrey Gaitano, expressed appreciation for the training,saying the skills acquired would help strengthen leadership, governance and service delivery within their groups
Women were also encouraged to take up leadership positions in farmer organisations and other institutions to promote inclusive leadership and community development,while challenging the long-held perception that leadership is reserved for men
The call was echoed by Ms.Janet Simiyu, a representative from the Likuyani Hub
The organisers expressed confidence that the training will contribute to :-
stronger and better-governed Farmer Service Centre networks,
supporting inclusive agribusiness growth and sustainable agricultural development across Kakamega County
