Preparations for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations, scheduled for 1st June at the Masinde Muliro Stadium in Bungoma County, are currently underway by the technical teams. Their primary focus is to ensure that the Stadium and other amenities are fully prepared for the upcoming celebrations.

The chosen theme for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations is “Promoting Agriculture and Food Security.” Bungoma County has been highlighted as possessing all the necessary resources for food security, with ample food available for both export and local consumption, making it an ideal location for hosting the event. It was emphasized by the PS that infrastructure, such as roads essential for promoting food security, are among the amenities undergoing rehabilitation, and meticulous preparations have been made to guarantee the success of the celebration.

The Planning Committee is working hand-in-hand with local leadership and the security team to maintain order and ensure all arrangements proceed according to plan. Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture will utilize this opportunity to showcase priority value chains within agriculture, including rice, cotton, edible oils, and leather, with the goal of raising awareness among farmers and stakeholders throughout the entire agricultural value chain from farming to market distribution.

Farmers in the region are encouraged to take advantage of the government-subsidized fertilizers available at the National Cereals and Produce Board to boost food production and enhance the county’s food security. Residents are urged to capitalize on the event being hosted in Bungoma County to promote their businesses and improve their livelihoods while upholding a positive image of the County.

Acknowledgment was given to the government for entrusting Bungoma County with the opportunity to host the event. Furthermore, residents illegally occupying Stadium land at Kanduyi were beseeched to vacate the premises promptly to allow the Celebration Organizing Committee to set up the venue and surrounding areas as planned.
