Kakamega County Celebrates World Environment Day

Kakamega, Kenya – In a bid to raise awareness on the importance of environmental protection, the Kakamega County Government has celebrated World Environment Day. The event, which was held at the Senyende grounds in Shinyalu costituency has brought together officials from various institutions and organizations, as well as residents of the county.

In a speech, read on behalf of Kakamega Governor, by Environment CEC, Peninah Mukabane Kakamega residents have been urged to adopt eco-friendly practices to reduce their carbon footprint. The county government has launched a campaign to promote the use of bio-gas as a sustainable alternative to traditional energy sources.

Experts from various organizations, including SAVLATE, have emphasized the importance of sustainable practices in protecting the environment. “We need to adopt sustainable practices that will ensure the preservation of our environment for future generations,” said Jilet Lihanda, Manager of SAVLATE.

Kenya has joined the global efforts to celebrate World Environment Day, with various events and activities taking place across the country. The Kakamega County Government has organized a series of events, including a tree-planting exercise, to mark the occasion.

Residents of Kakamega County have been encouraged to take action to protect the environment by adopting eco-friendly practices. They have been urged to reduce their carbon footprint by using public transport, carpooling, and reducing energy consumption. Residents have also been encouraged to recycle and compost waste, and to use bio-gas as an alternative energy source.
