On Thursday 9th November 2023, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Trade, Industrialization, and Tourism, Ms. Rachel Atamba, embarked on a site visit to assess the potential of the Madala Tea Factory. Situated in Isukha Central Ward, Shinyalu Sub-County.

Ms. Rachel Atamba’s visit was primarily focused on evaluating the infrastructural requirements essential for the successful establishment of the Madala Tea Factory. During her visit, the CECM revealed that the County Government of Kakamega is actively engaged in discussions with the Kenya Tea Development Authority (KTDA) regarding the setup of the Madala Tea Factory.

One of the key aspects discussed during the visit was the need for a consistent and sufficient water supply, vital in ensuring a seamless tea production process. 

The Madala Tea Factory project holds significant promise for the local community. Once fully operational, it is expected to provide a stable and lucrative market for tea farmers in the area. Moreover, it will generate employment opportunities, contributing to the prosperity of Shinyalu Sub-County.

Governor Barasa’s Commitment

Governor Fernandes Barasa has shown unwavering commitment to this project, aligning it with his ambitious agenda for wealth creation in the region. He has set a clear target to commission the Madala Tea Factory during the financial year 2023/2024.
