On Friday’s 10th November 2023, Football Kenya Federation Premier League showdown at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, Kakamega Homeboyz inflicted a crushing 5-0 defeat on a struggling Sofapaka.

Kakamega Homeboyz wasted no time in their mission. Just 30 minutes into the game, Stephen Opoku scored the opening goal with a well-placed header, capitalizing on a corner kick delivered by Eston Omengo. Ten minutes later, another header found its mark, further extending Abana Abeingo’s lead. Kevin Amwayi provided a precise cross, which Brain Eshihanda headed home, giving the hosts a commanding 2-0 lead heading into the break.

Eshihanda didn’t stop there, completing his brace just three minutes later with yet another header. Ambrose Sifuna joined the scoring frenzy, directing home a pass from Moses Shumah on the stroke of halftime, leaving no doubt about the result.

While Sofapaka attempted some damage control in the early stages of the second half, their efforts were short-lived. After just 15 minutes, the Masinza brothers, Christopher and Enock, combined to deliver Homeboyz’s fifth goal. Christopher Masinza found the target in the 60th minute, set up by his younger brother Enock Masinza.

This loss marks the eighth defeat for Sofapaka in 11 matches, keeping them rooted to the bottom of the league standings with a mere seven points. Coach Ezekiel Akwana faces the daunting task of finding a winning formula swiftly, or else Sofapaka may be in danger of relegation for the remainder of the season.

Sofapaka, who have managed only two wins this season, are grappling with a porous defense that has conceded a league-high 19 goals in 11 games. This issue is something Akwana will need to address promptly.
