The County Government of Kakamega, led by CECM for Roads, Energy and Public Works Arch. Eng. Patrick Kundu, recently visited the offices of Alternative Energy Systems Ltd (AESL) in Thika, Kiambu County to explore potential investment opportunities. During the visit, Arch. Kundu expressed satisfaction with AESL’s waste collection and conversion processes and reiterated the County Government’s commitment to support the manufacturer in establishing a plant in Kakamega. He emphasized the County’s interest in partnering with industry players to tackle the waste challenge, create jobs, and drive economic growth as per Governor Fernandes Barasa’s six-point agenda.

AESL, known for recycling waste plastic into synthetic oil using Pyrolysis technology, has successfully operated in other counties like Kiambu. The CEO of Kakamega County Investment Development Agency (KCIDA), Ms. Elizabeth Asichi, also present during the visit, thanked AESL for considering Kakamega as a potential location for their plant. She mentioned the County’s plans to set up Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) across all regions to ensure a steady supply of plastic waste for AESL.

Ms. Asichi revealed that the County Government has plans to establish Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs’) in all regions of the County and expressed confidence that AESL will accumulate sufficient plastic waste to run a sustainable business in Kakamega. The visit was part of follow-up efforts with potential investors who participated in the 2024 Conference (KAIICO). The County Government is actively seeking investors to address environmental challenges, create job opportunities, and drive economic growth in line with its development agenda.
