The Kakamega county government has pledged to support education programs in the area. During the Kenya National Union of Teachers KNUT Kakamega north sub-county Special General Meeting, county chief Fernandes Barasa announced that the ward bursary kitty had been increased from Ksh. 2 million to Ksh. 4 million to enable more underprivileged children to access education. Barasa also praised the teachers for their valuable contributions to the community and urged the Teachers’ Service Commission to halt delocalization and bring teachers back to their homes to work.

Additionally, he called on the Salaries and Remuneration Commission to respect the Collective Bargaining Agreement signed between teachers and their union. Barasa promised to work closely with the national counterpart to ensure that teachers from primary to vocational colleges have the necessary infrastructure for effective teaching and learning.

He further revealed that the sub-county would be elevated to a municipality by December, and a milk plant would also be opened at the same time to boost the economy of the area. The AGM resulted in the appointment of Dennis Shitanda as the new assistant treasurer, replacing retired chief principal Peter Masungo.
