Bishop Henry Juma Odonya, Chairman of the Youth Commission of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), has expressed his gratitude to all the young people who participated in the AMECEA Youth Extravaganza, saying they have demonstrated that the Church is alive through their faith, talents, and enthusiasm.
The Bishop described young people as the hope of both the Church and the African continent, emphasizing that their unity despite coming from different nations and cultures is a powerful sign of building bridges of communion, hope, justice, and good governance.
He encouraged the youth, as they return to their respective countries and dioceses, to continue spreading the spirit of unity they cultivated in Nairobi. He urged them to be builders of peace where there is division, messengers of hope where there is despair, defenders of justice where there is injustice, and witnesses to Christ’s love in their communities.
Bishop Odonya also reaffirmed that the Church believes in young people, needs them, and remains committed to walking together with them on their journey of faith.
On behalf of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and the Youth Commission, he thanked the AMECEA Secretariat, the organizing committees, youth leaders, priests, sponsors, volunteers, and all participants for making the gathering a success. He prayed that God would bless the youth, that Our Lady of Africa would protect them, and that the Holy Spirit would strengthen them to continue being disciples and missionaries of hope.
Today, the bishops officially begin the 21st AMECEA Plenary Assembly at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) in Nairobi.
