The intensified crackdown on individuals involved in illicit brew production in Kakamega County has been initiated by the Multi Agency team on drug and substance abuse. A collaborative effort by various agencies, such as NGAO, NPS, the County government, NACADA, and Kenya Revenue Authority, aims to address the issue at hand. The focus of the team is to target illegal brewers and distributors in order to curb the production and sale of harmful substances within the county.

Kakamega County Commissioner Michael Mwangi issued a stern warning in Kakamega town following the recent seizure of significant quantities of illicit liquor. Mwangi emphasized that those engaged in illicit activities will face repercussions and will find no safe haven from law enforcement. The coordinated approach of the agencies involved underscores the commitment to eradicating the illicit brew trade and protecting the public from the adverse effects of consuming such substances.

Mr. Mwangi further made statement regarding the closure of illegal establishments selling prohibited liquor, signaling a resolute stance against the distribution of illicit alcohol. Importers of counterfeit beverages from neighboring countries were also cautioned about the legal repercussions of their actions. Measures are being enforced rigorously to prevent the sale and consumption of unsafe alcohol within Kakamega County.

Expressing concerns, the county commissioner highlighted the involvement of children and women in the consumption of illicit alcohol. Tragic incidents resulting in loss of life due to the consumption of substandard drinks have intensified the urgency for the crackdown. Steps are being taken to safeguard all individuals, particularly vulnerable groups, from the risks associated with illegal substances.

An appeal for heightened vigilance in the issuance of bar licenses was made by the county commissioner to county governments. Emphasis was placed on the need for thorough evaluation of license applications to prevent the operation of illicit establishments. Collaboration between the authorities and local governments is crucial in addressing the challenges linked to the production and sale of illicit alcohol in Kakamega County.
