It is a reprieve for the six hundred and seventy students from the western region who have benefited from Equity Bank to continue their secondary school studies after the bank’s CEO James Mwangi issued letters of scholarship to the students for the good results they got in their primary education.

Speaking at Kakamega High School when he met the students to hand over the scholarships, Mr. Mwangi commended President Uhuru Kenyatta for his close co-operation with the bank’s stakeholders, which he said was part of the factors that contributed to the funding of many underprivileged students in the country.

Similarly, Mr. Mwangi advised the teachers who will receive the students to ensure that they continue to work hard so as the students join various colleges in the country.

It is a statement echoed by Kakamega County Deputy Governor Philip Kutima who called on the students to work hard in their studies to become a bridge from poverty in the country.

In Bungoma County a total of 236 students qualified for this year’s scholarship. Equity Bank Bungoma Branch  manager, Stephen Wasiche observed that the bank not only provides scholarships but also helps in moulding the society by keeping the students in schools.
